Pebbledash walls repair and renovation
Pebbledash is a thick coat of render, followed by a thin layer over the top and then Small stones or chippings are thrown onto the render before it dries so that they stick to it and provide a weathering surface. Spar is a close relation using jagged chippings some of which are ordinary stone, which look a bit dull or there is Canterbury or dolomite for more colour.
Roughcast by definition a more roughly applied `lumpier` render mix, made up of large stoney aggregates
Common problems with pebbledash
Pebbledash is extremely porous, it absorbs rain water like a sponge and feeds penetrating damp, thus resulting in long term damage and erosion to the structure. Verdigris can also be a problem in damp area or on north facing walls.
Over the years the pebbles fall off and cracks appear leaving it vunrable to the atmospheric conditions.
Solutions
Reapirs can be done but generally it is very difficult to repair without it being notice. Removing pebbledash or rendering over is also very time consuming and expensive process.
Permashield uses a method called 'Bagcoat'. This is a slurry of sand, cement and latex that is made up like porridge and brushed onto the surface. By applying it in this manner it enables all cracks, loose pebbledash and any unsightly repairs to be covered.
Permashield wall coating is then applied giving it a totally water proof covering and decorative finish.
